45

City Peoria issued the following announcement on Nov. 22

The city of Peoria has hired Melodi Green as the Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer where she will be responsible for leading the city’s strategy for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Ms. Green has an extensive law background, having previously worked as the Chief of the Juvenile Division of the Peoria County State’s Attorney where she was the charging attorney responsible for decision making in hundreds of criminal delinquency and abuse cases in Peoria County.  Prior to working for the County, Ms. Green worked as an attorney for the city of Peoria where part of her responsibilities included presiding as the governing trial attorney over all city administrative court calls and three county circuit calls.

City Manager Patrick Urich stated, “We are thrilled that Melodi Green will be returning to the city to lead our diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.  Her knowledge and experience will serve the community well as we work together to achieve our goals.  As a lifelong resident of Peoria, she understands the challenges and opportunities that we face.”

Green is a graduate of the Southern Illinois University School of Law and Kentucky State University and received the Diversity and Inclusion Certificate from Cornell University earlier this year.   She is a member of the Peoria County Bar Association where she serves as Chair of the Diversity Committee.  She was appointed to the Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Police and Community Relations in 2018.  She has also volunteered her time with the Street Law Program at Richwoods High School, Prairie State Legal Services, Stop the Violence, and Habitat for Humanity, among others.

Ms. Green was selected after a nationwide search and panel interviews with community leaders and residents.  She will assume her new role on December 1, 2021, with a starting salary of $110,000.
