Gubernatorial candidate Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Xenia) recently attended the annual Illinois Farm Bureau meeting in Chicago at the Palmer House, where he vowed to uphold his commitment to the industry.
“As a farmer, I’ll always support Illinois agriculture and the thousands of jobs it creates and supports across the state,” he posted on Twitter. “It’s time we fix Springfield to get Illinois growing again.”
Bailey also showed his appreciation to the Farm Bureau. “Thank you to everyone who helped make this weekend a success for AG education,” he posted.
Illinois Farm Bureau officials later tweeted the event raised $40,000 for Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom.
“Whether you bid in the Online Auction, attended the Ice Cream Social & Live Auction, adopted a sheep, or purchased an item, you made a difference,” officials posted.
U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Champaign) spoke at the event and urged farmers to speak out against the dangers for the industry they see looming.
“Policies and programs that are important to family farms and rural communities are under attack in Springfield and Washington,” he posted to Twitter. “Now more than ever, it's important that farmers stand up and make their voices heard.”
