Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, Asian American Advisory Council met Feb. 9.

REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES

OLD BUSINESS: 

Asian American Newsletter 

The Asian American Star newsletter, first issue was posted on the D-Net on 2-8-22. The newsletter had a meeting discussing articles for the second newsletter. Nancy asked council members to send articles they would like to see in the second newsletter. Nancy will send council members articles put together thus far for the second newsletter.

DCFS Asian American Advisory Council Handbook 

Nancy stated that the DCFS Communications Department has reviewed the Asian American Advisory Council Handbook. The DCFS Communications created and approved the cover letter for the handbook. Handbook will be updated by Nancy. Nancy will send council members an updated handbook for review and feed-back.

DCFS Asian American Advisory Council History 

Stany is not available today for an update. Nancy stated that Stany has a lot of information for the history of AAAC.

Professional Development 

Stany is not available for an update.

Recruitment of New Council Members 

No update.

Updates from the Chief of Asian American Services 

Ada stated that more youths are needed for the affinity group meetings. First meeting is scheduled for 2-28-22. Youths who participate receive a $50.00 stipend per meeting. The New Year Luna poster was posted in the D-Net. Ada is addressing recruitment needs for more Asian American staff.

Family Institute Day (June 2022) 

Ada Tong volunteered to be the Chair of the AAAC Family Institute event of June, 2022. Alix stated that the budget for the Asian American Family Institute event is $10,000. Alix will further confirm with Brooke Taylor and have an update in the next meeting.

2022 Calendar 

Our monthly meetings are regularly every fourth Wednesdays with exception of November and December due to the holidays. For 2022, our alternate meetings dates are 11-17-22 and 12-15- 21.

NEW BUSINESS 

OMA Training 

Kara Hamilton stated that the OMA training has not been available for one year. New Year Celebration 

New Year celebration is cancelled.

Next meeting is 2-23-2022 

Our January meeting was cancelled by Sebastian due to lack of participation by council members. Any other matter

Ada stated that we can add Officer Nominations to the next agenda.
