Sen. Darren Bailey says that Gov. Pritzker owes the students an apology.
In an Aug. 29 Facebook post, Gubernatorial candidate and Bailey took aim at Pritzker for school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“JB Pritzker owes the students of Illinois an apology," Bailey said on Facebook. "Through his unilateral mandates he closed your schools, canceled your proms, ended your athletic careers and took away your moments on stage for graduation. On my watch, this will never happen again. Our kids deserve better. #firepritzker #restoreillinois #standingwithyouin2022"
In his Facebook post, Bailey shared a link to a Youtube video in which he made a statement.
"Last week was the beginning of high school sports," Bailey said. "So many students advanced to train their entire lives for the opportunity to take the field and chase their dreams. But sadly over the last two years, those moments were stolen away by JB Pritzker and his unilateral lockdown. Never again should we allow this to happen. JB shut down schools. He decimated education. He eliminated sports. He canceled your graduations and he destroyed mental health. JB Pritzker owes the students of Illinois an apology. He owes the families an apology. This was unacceptable, and as your governor, I promise you I'll keep schools open safely, prioritize the budget to invest in classrooms and our schools will never be shut down again on my watch because parents and students deserve better."
He also shared a link that would take visitors to a campaign website where they could donate to his campaign.
Bailey was the clear Republican choice to challenge J.B. Pritzker in the June Primary. He received 454.342 votes.
