Sen. Darren Bailey (R-Louisville) told the Barbershop News Network that he opposes Illinois being a sanctuary state for undocumented immigrants.

"I think it’s interesting because we have to acknowledge that history repeats itself," Bailey said. "So when you water down and remove history from public education, then our, you know, coming generations are taught of past free countries and past forms of republics. Because when you are taught that, like I was, you begin to realize that any time that any form of democracy, any form of a republic, any form of a free people, one of the first things that was taken away to destroy them was law and order. And I see the makings of that happening right now. So, that’s why we get our education under control. We get we have to get crime and law and order under control. Otherwise, we destroy this constitutional republic so that, gosh, this sanctuary city or sanctuary states, that status has got to be one of the most disastrous policies that Illinois and any other states facing right now. And I stand against that. It must stop."

Republican candidate Catalina Lauf, running for Congress in the 11th District, criticized the Biden administration in a statement condemning illegal immigration.

"The Biden Administration’s failed open border policies leave border communities in states like Texas overwhelmed. It is ridiculous that we Illinoisians are forced to foot the bill – especially during turbulent economic times," she said. "Not to mention, Biden’s gross inaction at our border puts all our communities and districts at risk, Democrat representatives in Congress sit in silence."

Lauf's statement came after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) sent a busload of 60 migrants to Illinois in late August. Lauf won a six-way primary in June and will face five-term incumbent Democratic Rep. Bill Foster in November. Lauf previously served in the Trump Administration as a consultant for the Department of Commerce.

Chris Dargis, a Republican looking to unseat Democratic U.S. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi in the 8th District, criticized the City of Chicago for shipping migrants that were sent to the city to the suburbs. Dargis said on Twitter, "The impact of the #BidenBorderCrisis should not fall on Illinois taxpayers because the Biden-Krishnamoorthi administration has refused to solve this humanitarian and national security crisis. We need leaders in D.C. who will secure our borders now!"

Elk Grove Mayor Craig Johnson also criticized Mayor Lori Lightfoot for sending migrants to his town without notice. Lightfoot also sent a group to Burr Ridge, and Mayor Gary Grasso had no advanced notice from Lightfoot, Chicago City Wire reported.

"Sanctuary state - that is a slap on the face", according to Jeffrey Coleman of Barbershop News Network. Coleman is a candidate for Illinois State Representative of The 29th District.
