The Illinois State Rifle Association Legal Assistance Committee is condemning Gov. J.B. Pritzker and the Democrat majority in the General Assembly for seeking to end the legal ownership of many types of guns.
“We have been telling you the dangers of the growing number of anti-2nd Amendment politicians in Springfield,” the ISRA Legal Assistance Committee said in an email.
“Now they proved us right when they filed HB5855 with the full support of the most anti-gun Governor this state has ever seen, Gov. Pritzker.”
"The ISRA Legal Assistance Committee needs your support NOW so we are ready to stop this gun control legislation in the courts. Click here to make a TAX-DEDUCTIBLE donation of $50, $100, $250, $1000 or as much as you can to ensure we have the resources to defend your rights. Even a donation of $10 or $20 will help our cause! “
“The proposed legislation, which could be voted on as soon as January, would ban many common semi-automatic pistols, rifles, and shotguns along with any magazine with a capacity greater than 10 rounds, including any magazine for your handguns. The legislation will also prevent any person under 21 from receiving a FOID card unless they are in the military.” “
The anti-gun crowd’s agenda has always been to incrementally peal back the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Illinois citizens. HB5855 forces you to register many common firearms with the government, including those already owned. Registration is always a prelude to confiscation.”
“There will be no negotiations on this piece of legislation, and the ISRA Legal Assistance Committee will see the State of Illinois in court should this bill be enacted into law.” “But we can’t do that without your help. Lawyers and court fees are expensive, and we need to make sure are able to pay those bills.”

House Minority Leader Tony McCombie’s line of questioning in the first hearing in the House Judiciary Committee indicated the General Assembly may see more gun legislation in the upcoming term.
“I've heard now from a couple of the members that this is going to be... we're not done.. a package,” McCombie said during the first committee hearing on the bill.
A second hearing was held on Dec. 14 and a third will be held on Dec. 20 after which a positive vote on the measure by a heavily Democrat-held General Assembly is expected.
McCombie told Prairie State Wire the bill is patently unconstitutional.
“While HB 5855 is likely far from in its final form, the constitutionality of the bill will certainly go before the courts,” McCombie told Prairie State Wire. McCombie sits on the Rules Committee which will see the debate of the bill in three public hearings on Dec 14 and 19. The committee already had its first hearing on Dec. 12.
Guns Save Life founder John Boch spoke out against the legislation. He noted that HB 5855 would criminalize the owners of semi-automatic weapons and will bring out pro-gun sentiment.
“I think this bill is going to be what’s gonna wake up the sleeping giants who say ‘hey, no, we’ve had enough. You never are satisfied by taking little pieces so we’re going to take a bigger chunk of the pie back this time,’” Boch told WMAY. “Bob Morgan is going to lose in court, and not only is he going to lose this, but I anticipate he’s going to get a whole lot of Illinois gun laws that are currently on the books struck, and that’s going to lead to a much safer society for all of us from criminals.”
