Students from the College of Pharmacy, Downers Grove celebrated the beginning of their professional careers with a commencement ceremony on Thursday, March 2, 2023. A total of 108 students received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm.D.) and will begin their professional pharmacy careers or participate in postgraduate residency programs.

Kathleen H. Goeppinger, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Midwestern University, acknowledged the many achievements of the graduates during their years of rigorous study and clinical experiences. “Today is a wonderful day to celebrate the graduates from the College of Pharmacy. They began their graduate school journey just before the start of the pandemic and they had the fortitude and the tenacity to succeed in a very challenging program,” Dr. Goeppinger said. “This class has accomplished a great deal during a difficult situation and they have excelled academically, advocated for the pharmacy profession, and served our community.”

The ceremony also featured remarks from Miriam Jiries Haddad, Pharm.D., representing the Class of 2023. “Our time at Midwestern has been challenging, yet rewarding,” Dr. Haddad said. “Being able to practice with beneficence and advocacy is the foundation of the pharmacy profession. I urge my fellow graduates to keep this at the center of every endeavor going forward so that together, we, as pharmacists, can serve our patients with humility, compassion, and equity.”

Since 1991, the College of Pharmacy, Downers Grove has prepared students for vibrant careers in a variety of practice areas such as community pharmacies, hospitals, managed care facilities, clinics, educational institutions, and pharmaceutical companies.
