Dr. Amanda Harsy, associate professor of mathematics and director of Mathematics, and recent Lewis University alumni Austin Buente (math), Marissa Koronkiewicz (computer science and math minor), and Hannah Schultz (math and secondary education) recently published their paper, "Does the Dropped Score Matter."
Published in The PME Journal Vol. 15, No. 7, the paper shares their results of using a Massey-based model to test various scoring schemes and weights to predict final rankings in golf. In particular, they explored whether incorporating the dropped score of a match improves an unweighted Massey ranking model for NCAA Division II Golf results.
