The Lewis University women's bowling team ended its season at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Saturday (March 25) at Strike N' Spare II, but not before setting a new program record and tournament-best score in the process. The Flyers ended up bowing out losing both of its matches over the weekend, ending its season with a 55-53 record.
 
The No. 5 seed Flyers averaged 198.85 for their four sets, which was the second-highest average in the tournament behind champion McKendree. They also had the highest set of the tournament with 1,150.
 
In their mega match Friday against No. 4 seed Central Missouri, Lewis won the traditional match 1,150-899 before falling in the five-game baker 1,035-974 and in the best-of-7 4.5-.5.

The Flyers came back Saturday and fell to No. 2 seed Maryville 2-0 as Maryville had a 278 game in the traditional game that the Saints won 1,053-1,024. In the baker match Maryville won 1,054-829 to end the season for the Flyers.

"I am very proud of this team," Lewis coach Scott Taylor said. "We bowled very well this weekend and it showed by having the second-highest average in the field, we just bowled the wrong teams at the wrong times. It was unfortunate that we had nothing to show for how well we did bowl. This group made tremendous progress throughout the year. We were nine games under .500 at the semester and to finish above .500 with the schedule we face is a testament to the hard work they put in."
