[WASHINGTON, D.C.] – U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) today met with members of United Steelworkers (USW) District 7 to discuss federal efforts to support working families and protect strong union labor. Duckworth and the USW members also discussed the impacts of unfair trade practices on their industries. A photo from today’s meeting is available here.

“Every American deserves to work in a safe, good-paying job that allows them to support their families and save for a secure retirement,” Duckworth said. “The work of organizations like the United Steelworkers is critical in helping ensure working families are protected. I was glad to meet with the members of USW today, and I’ll keep doing what I can to ensure their work, and all of our working families, are supported.”

Duckworth is a strong supporter of union labor and workers’ right to organize. Earlier this year she helped introduce the Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act of 2023—a comprehensive proposal to protect workers’ right to come together and bargain for higher wages, better benefits and safer workplaces.

USW District 7 comprises members from Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana. USW represents workers in a diverse range of industries, including primary and fabricated metals, paper, chemicals, glass, rubber, heavy-duty conveyor belting, tires, transportation, utilities, container industries, pharmaceuticals, call centers, museums and health care.
