The Illinois Freedom Caucus is calling out the state’s Democrat supermajority for a recently enacted law that will allow anyone to change their gender on state documents.
The law passed in February and was enacted July 1.
“Aren't you so glad State of Illinois Government is working hard to solve real issues for you? Official Birth Certificate Gender Changes with no Medical Proof???? The Democrats continue to empower MEN with Male Anatomy to go into the locker room or bathroom with your Daughter, Granddaughter, Sister etc.” the Illinois Freedom Caucus said on Facebook. “---Are we going to have to start labeling our bathrooms by Anatomy and Body Parts? Is our society really that ignorant?”
Previously, Illinois residents had to provide medical certification of gender reassignment surgery or other clinical treatment to change the gender on their birth certificates. The new law allows individuals to self-identify for gender marker corrections by submitting a notarized affidavit of correction, a current ID copy, and a processing fee to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
The law eliminates the previous requirement of medical certification for gender reassignment and instead allows individuals to affirm their gender identity or intersex condition through a signed statement, making gender-affirming documentation more accessible.
The update is noted on the Illinois Department of Health website.
“The department will review the request and if all requirements are met, will create a new birth record reflecting the new sex designation and name change, if appropriate. The original birth certificate and all documents submitted are placed in a sealed and impounded file which cannot be opened except upon order of the circuit clerk, request of the person or as provided by regulation,” IDPH’s website reads.
The Illinois Freedom Caucus has organized a conference in Springfield, to address concerns about a policy at the local YMCA that allows biological males to use girls' locker rooms. The event is set to take place at 1 p.m. July 13 in Rotary Park, just off Freedom Avenue, and will be attended by former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines who is known for opposing transgender participation in girls' sports, Sangamon Sun reported.
