Illinois U.S. Sens. Tammy Duckworth (D) and Dick Durbin (D) both voted against a measure that would have prohibited illegal aliens from being factored into the count for apportionment of congressional districts and the Electoral College map.

The two Illinois senators joined every U.S. Senate Democrat in voting to kill the measure.

“Today I forced Chuck Schumer to hold a vote on whether illegal aliens should be counted for determining the number of congressional seats and electoral votes each state gets,” said U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty (R-Tenn.), sponsor of the measure, in a statement. “Democrats’ unanimous opposition to this commonsense measure confirms that they’re using illegal aliens and sanctuary cities to increase their political power.”

“With this vote, Senate Democrats chose to trample on the rights of each American’s voice,” said Hagerty. “I will continue to fight and press this issue in the Senate.”

Hagerty’s measure was introduced as an amendment to H.R. 4366, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, and was voted down on a vote of 45-51.

U.S. Sens. Barasso (R-Wyo.), Hawley (R-MO), Romney (R-Utah), and Manchin (D-W.Va.) did not vote on the bill.
