U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) voted Friday to allow the Biden Administration to continue using taxpayer funds to charter flights for illegal aliens wishing to “settle” in U.S. cities further from the border, including in Illinois.
Durbin was one of 51 Democrats who killed an amendment by U.S. Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) that would have blocked funding of the secret flights.
All Republicans voting supported the bill, which failed 51-47.
A March 4 Center for Immigration Studies report revealed the existence of the flights, which have carried an estimated 320,000 illegal aliens to 43 U.S. Airports. Biden Administration officials admitted the flights exist, but have refused to reveal to where and when they have specifically been taking place.
Freedom of Information Act requests by Chicago City Wire show that dozens of daily flights have arrived at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, where thousands of illegal aliens have been living.
Durbin was born in East St. Louis, Illinois. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University and his JD from Georgetown University Law Center. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982, and served the state of Illinois in this capacity until he was elected as Illinois U.S. Senator in 1996.
Durbin is married to Loretta Schaefer Durbin, and they have three children and six grandchildren. They current live in Springfield.
