Before attending the Illinois State Fair, organizers recommend reviewing several tips to ensure a smooth experience.
For those with mobile tickets, it is advised to download them via the Ticketmaster app before arriving at the fairgrounds. This measure aims to mitigate potential delays caused by inconsistent wifi signals.
A new policy this year prohibits outside drink containers inside the Grandstand during concert events for safety reasons. Prohibited items include bottles, cans, reusable cups like Stanley, and refillable souvenir cups. All beverages sold within the Grandstand will be opened at the point of sale, and drinks sold in standing room only sections will be served in plastic cups.
Grandstand concerts will proceed regardless of rain. Cancellations due to severe weather are rare and made at the last minute. Refunds are not issued if the headliner performs. Attendees can check for updates on the Illinois State Fair Facebook page.
Trams will return this year, sponsored by the IL Corn Growers Association. Two complimentary trams will operate on a dedicated route throughout the 11 days of the fair. Maps showing tram routes will be displayed on-site.
Wheelchairs and scooters can be rented daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. near Goat Barn on Grandstand Avenue and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday, or until 7 p.m., Friday through Sunday, at IL Building locations. A driver's license is required for deposit on all rentals which must be returned to retrieve it.
Rental rates are as follows: Wagon/Stroller Combo $20; Wheelchairs $25; Single scooter $60; Double scooter $110. Rentals are available on a first-come, first-served basis without reservations.
First Aid services will be provided by SIU Medicine volunteers stationed in Emmerson Building Annex across from Dairy Building on Central Avenue from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., daily. Another station will operate nightly from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., inside Illinois State Police Building on Grandstand Avenue.
Attendees are encouraged to download the free Illinois State Fair app available for Apple and Android devices which includes a daily schedule of events, planning tools with scheduling and alert features, a Food Finder search tool by food type and vendor, and a map of the fairgrounds.
