Young hunters aged 10 to 17 are invited to apply for wingshooting clinics and pheasant hunts scheduled for October. The events will be held on October 19 at Edward R. Madigan State Park in Logan County and on October 26 at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area in DeWitt County.

The morning sessions will feature a wingshooting clinic conducted by instructors certified by the National Sporting Clays Association and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). Participants will learn safe shotgun handling and improve their wingshooting skills during these sessions.

In the afternoon, a pheasant hunt is planned. To join, youth must have completed an approved hunter safety course and possess a valid hunting license.

Permits for these activities can be obtained through IDNR's Controlled Pheasant Hunting Program online reservation system. Applicants should select "click here for applications" followed by "Illinois youth pheasant hunts" to proceed with their application. It is necessary to review the Illinois Youth Pheasant Hunt Information and Regulations available on the website before applying.

For more details, including the 2024 IDNR wingshooting calendar and registration information, interested individuals are encouraged to visit the IDNR website.
