The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) reported an increase in the state's unemployment rate to 5.0% in June, a rise of 0.1 percentage point from May. The data, based on preliminary figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, also indicated an increase of 10,400 nonfarm payroll jobs during the same period.

Revised figures for May showed no change in the unemployment rate at 4.9%, while job growth was adjusted from an initial estimate of 12,700 to 9,600 new positions.

June saw significant job gains in sectors such as Private Education and Health Services (+7,100), Trade, Transportation and Utilities (+3,200), and Government (+2,800). Conversely, declines were noted in Leisure and Hospitality (-1,800), Information (-1,100), and Professional and Business Services (-1,000).

Deputy Governor Andy Manar commented on the report stating that "stable payroll job growth remains a positive component of the Illinois economy," emphasizing IDES's readiness to support both workers and employers.

DCEO Director Kristin Richards remarked on the strength of Illinois' labor market with "consistent growth in payroll jobs," committing to continue providing resources to bolster the state's economy.

Illinois' unemployment rate was reported as being higher than the national average by 0.9 percentage points; nationally it stood at 4.1% for June.

Over the past year, Illinois has seen a net increase of 24,200 nonfarm payroll jobs. Notable increases were observed in Private Education and Health Services (+26,400) and Government (+26,400), while Professional and Business Services experienced a decline (-27,000).

The number of unemployed individuals rose by 3.3% from May to June reaching 327,900—a figure that is up by 18.7% compared to last year.

IDES continues its efforts to connect jobseekers with potential employers through various initiatives including job fairs and events statewide alongside maintaining Illinois JobLink (IJL). This platform currently lists over 85 thousand available positions against nearly 59 thousand resumes posted by job seekers.
