The Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation have announced the closure of Interstate 55 between milepost 63 and milepost 82. The decision comes as a precautionary measure due to extreme winds leading to low visibility and hazardous driving conditions.
Currently, there have been no reported crashes on this section of the highway today. However, authorities emphasize that the closure is necessary for public safety until wind conditions improve.
