Illinois tourism launches video series showcasing outdoor adventures

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, Office of Tourism, has introduced a new video series titled "Real People, Real Stories, Real Outdoors." This initiative aims to showcase the wide range of outdoor activities available in Illinois through stories from local adventurers. The series highlights the state's natural beauty and promotes it as a prime destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Illinois boasts 70 state parks and recreation areas, 2,900 lakes, and seven national scenic byways. The content series reveals nature trails, hidden gems, iconic landmarks, and unique stays across the state.

Kristin Richards, Director of DCEO, stated that the campaign "inspires visitors to explore all that Illinois has to offer" and positions the state as a leading outdoor destination. She emphasized its potential to attract outdoor enthusiasts and stimulate economic development in rural areas.

Natalie Phelps Finnie from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources noted the importance of reconnecting with nature in today's digital world. She expressed hope that the series would encourage people to discover parks and recreational areas throughout Illinois.

Daniel Thomas from DCEO's Office of Tourism described how "the essence of ‘Real People, Real Stories, Real Outdoors’ perfectly captures" Illinois' natural beauty. He highlighted various activities such as hiking, cycling, horseback riding, canoeing, and fishing available statewide.

The series includes personal stories like Dennis and Carol Sporleder's family camping trips at Rock Cut State Park near Rockford or Starved Rock State Park in Oglesby. It also features Chicago residents exploring diverse landscapes like Camp Aramoni's luxury campground in LaSalle County or Rend Lake in Southern Illinois. Additionally, adaptive climber Meaghan Cusack shares her experiences at climbing spots suitable for all skill levels.
