Entering the fifth year of the Rebuild Illinois initiative, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced several projects in McHenry County. These efforts are part of a broader commitment facilitated by Governor JB Pritzker's capital program. The five major projects represent an investment exceeding $19 million, aimed at enhancing safety, mobility, and quality of life while supporting job creation in the region.

Governor Pritzker stated, "Rebuild Illinois is revitalizing communities and neighborhoods by investing in projects and people in the McHenry County area and throughout the state." He emphasized that IDOT will deliver improvements to build a more resilient transportation system.

The scheduled projects for 2023-2024 include:

1. Intersection improvements on Illinois 176 at Nish Road in Nunda Township with additional turn lanes and traffic signals.

2. Widening and resurfacing of Illinois 176 from Dean Street to Deerpass Road with drainage improvements.

3. Culvert replacement on U.S. 14 between Crowley and Oak Grove roads.

4. Culvert replacement on Illinois 173 east of U.S. 14 and Illinois 176 east of Illinois 47.

5. Bridge deck resurfacing on Illinois 47 at Nippersink Creek in Woodstock.

State Senator Craig Wilcox expressed his support, saying, "I'm happy to work with IDOT every year and I'm excited to see so many projects in our region come to fruition in the years ahead." State Representative Joe Sosnowski added, "For the past four years, Rebuild Illinois has made a positive impact in McHenry County."

Launched in 2019, Rebuild Illinois is a $33.2 billion investment over six years into the state's transportation infrastructure. It aims to create jobs and promote economic growth across various modes of transportation including roads, bridges, transit systems, waterways, railways, aviation facilities, as well as bicycle and pedestrian paths.

To date, approximately $12.1 billion has been spent on improving highways, bridges, and other safety measures statewide under this program.

Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman remarked on the importance of these investments: "These investments in the McHenry County region will strengthen our system of multimodal transportation across the state."
