Gov. JB Pritzker, along with the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), announced the commencement of significant improvements at the intersection of Illinois 50 and Armour Road in Bradley-Bourbonnais. This $13.8 million project aims to alleviate congestion and enhance safety while fostering economic development and job creation, supported by the Rebuild Illinois capital program.
Governor Pritzker emphasized the project's broader impact: "Revitalizing communities, redesigning transit systems — these are the kinds of changes that I'm proud to support — here and all across the state. And it's the kind of change that sits at the heart and soul of what Rebuild Illinois is all about."
The project includes widening and resurfacing roads, adding turn lanes, installing new storm sewers, updating biking and walking paths, improving lighting, modernizing traffic signals, and enhancing landscaping. These upgrades will improve access to CSL Behring's factory, a major employer in Kankakee County.
"This project has a ripple effect that spreads throughout the county," said Governor Pritzker. It aims to make Bradley-Bourbonnais more welcoming for businesses like CSL Behring while creating construction jobs.
Illinois Transportation Secretary Omer Osman stated: "These intersection improvements once again show how Rebuild Illinois is addressing transportation needs at the local level and helping communities grow and succeed."
The initiative aligns with other regional projects funded by Rebuild Illinois, including bridge replacements over railroads and interstates. State Rep. Jackie Haas highlighted its importance: "By making this critical intersection easier and safer to navigate, we will help connect constituents and visitors alike to economic engines of our communities in Kankakee County."
State Senator Patrick Joyce added: "This project shows major collaboration from government officials, business leaders and community members who all recognize the importance of investing in our infrastructure."
Rebuild Illinois represents a historic $33.2 billion investment into statewide transportation infrastructure across various modes including roads, bridges, transit systems, waterways, railways, aviation routes, bicycle paths, and pedestrian accommodations.
