Illinois State Fair announces updated themes and discounts for its annual event

The Illinois State Fair has unveiled its new theme and discount days for the 2023 event. The fair will commence on Thursday, August 10, with County Fairs and Horse Racing Day, starting at 7 a.m. This day will feature horse racing, county fair activities, entertainment, carnival rides, food, and the Twilight Parade.

Parking on the opening day comes with a voucher for free parking valid on August 15, 16, or 17. Agriculture Day is now scheduled for Friday, August 11 to allow more livestock exhibitors and youth in agriculture to participate without conflicting with school schedules.

A new addition this year is "Twosday" on Tuesday, August 15. Admission will be $2 for adults and seniors while carnival rides by North American Midway will also cost $2 each. Mega Passes and Jumbo Passes remain valid.

Rebecca Clark, Illinois State Fair Manager stated: "We took a look at our theme days and saw a couple of ways we could enhance our fairgoers' experience," highlighting efforts to provide affordable family experiences.

The Governor's Sale of Champions is set for Wednesday, August 16 during Governor's Day. Visitors are encouraged to explore the Hall of Champions throughout the fair.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. on August 10 followed by noon carnival rides and other attractions including livestock shows and food stalls.

- August 10: County Fairs & Horse Racing Day/Double the Fun

- August 11: Agriculture Day

- August 12: Kids Day

- August 13: Veterans Day (Free admission for veterans and families)

- August 14: Senior & Scout Day (Free admission for seniors and scouts)

- August 15: Twosday ($2 admission)

- August 16: Governor's Day

- August 17: Republican Day

- August 18: First Responders & Healthcare Heroes Day (Free admission with ID)

- August 19: Park District Conservation Day

- August 20: Family Day
