The Illinois State Fair is set to offer a range of free entertainment options, providing an opportunity for families to enjoy the event without incurring significant costs. Jerry Costello II, Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, emphasized the fair's focus on family fun: "The Illinois State Fair is synonymous with family fun. Expanding free entertainment options helps draw families to the fair, allowing them to make memories that last a lifetime."
A series of free concerts will be held at the Grand Central Stage each night during the fair. The lineup includes performances by Gin Blossoms on August 8, Zepparella on August 9, and several other acts through August 18.
In addition to musical performances, Big Top Adventures will provide daily shows featuring jugglers, clowns, and trapeze artists in Happy Hollow. Other free events include Harness Racing with promotional giveaways, high dive shows by Watershow Productions, JUMP! The Ultimate Dog Show, and BMX Pros Trick Team demonstrations.
On August 17, attendees can participate in or watch the Park District Pentathlon, which includes competitive events like knockout basketball and a three-legged race. The ponytail contest and mullet contest are scheduled for August 10. The Sale of Champions will showcase top agricultural offerings on August 14.
Rebecca Clark, Illinois State Fair Manager, stated: "Each year we look for opportunities to make the Illinois State Fair more affordable and accessible for families. We want everyone to take full advantage of the free entertainment options at the Illinois State Fair." She encouraged planning visits using their website or app.
