Jeanne Ives recently criticized Governor J.B. Pritzker's record in a November 14 post on X, stating, "He is gaslighting the public with his new Governors Safeguarding Democracy Coalition."

"Pritzker's record is Anti-Democracy," said Jeanne M Ives, Founder. "He is gaslighting the public with his new Governors Safeguarding Democracy Coalition. Explain this Pritzker: 36 Months of COVID Tyranny. Unconstitutional Gun Ban -Unconstitutional Compelled Speech at Pro-life Pregnancy Centers."

In her post, Ives outlined several actions she disagreed with, including what she described as "Protecting Criminals w/SAFE-T Act and lawless Sanctuary policies," "Worst Gerrymandered legislative and Congressional districts, despite fair map promise," "Massive campaign spending including in school board races," "Cheating on his property taxes," and "Giving Communist Chinese Company tied to slave labor Tax Credits."

Ives also shared a link to an NPR article announcing the coalition of governors. According to the article, Governors Safeguarding Democracy (GSD) aims to protect democratic institutions at the state level using collective legislative, budgetary, executive, and administrative powers.

Pritzker was quoted in the NPR article saying that GSD is built off a model pioneered through the Reproductive Freedom Alliance. He added that they are pushing back against threats of autocracy and fortifying democratic institutions. Pritzker noted outreach to Republican governors and mentioned good conversations and continued interest from many governors.

The GSD website states that the alliance aims to strengthen democratic institutions in states and ensure the rule of law serves all people. It is supported by a nonpartisan organization called Governors Action Alliance (GovAct) and plans to collaborate with think tanks, legal experts, and democracy advocates.

Pritzker said in a news release on the organization's website: "At this critical moment in our history, we must unite to protect the foundations of our democracy and ensure our institutions withstand threats and persevere in their mission to improve the lives of our people. Governors Safeguarding Democracy will serve as a powerful force in state-level efforts to ensure that our democracy lives up to our ideals and thrives for generations to come."

Jeanne Ives is a former Illinois State Representative who served six years representing Illinois House District 42. She ran for governor in 2018 and sought election to represent Illinois’ 6th Congressional District in 2020.
