Abraham Mathai, 85, of Bourbonnais, Illinois, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on March 2, 1939, in Kuzhikala, Kerala, India, Abraham was raised by his mother, Aleyamma Abraham, after his father's early passing. He married Saramma in November 1959 and moved to the United States in 1960 to attend Olivet Nazarene University, where he earned degrees in Chemistry and Theology.

Abraham dedicated over 40 years to Mobil Chemical, Valspar Coatings, and St. Mary's Hospital, leaving a lasting impact on all he encountered. A member of College Church of the Nazarene for over 60 years, he actively participated in the J.O.B Bible Study and Homebuilders Sunday School class. Known for his service with the Gideons and Bourbonnais Library, Abraham will be remembered for his faith and commitment to others.

Survived by children Saji Mathai, Joyce Mathai, Thomas Mathai, his wife Libby, and grandsons Noah and Micah Mathai of Plano, Texas, Abraham is also remembered fondly by his extended family. Preceded in death by his mother and wife, Saramma, Abraham's legacy of love and service will endure through those who knew him.

Visitation will take place on Friday, November 29 from 4 pm to 8 pm at Clancy Gernon Funeral Homes in Bourbonnais, followed by a funeral service on Saturday, November 30 at 10 am. Interment at Kankakee Memorial Garden will follow. In memory of Abraham, donations can be made to the College Church of the Nazarene Missions. He will be deeply missed, but his impact on his community and church will continue to inspire. Sympathy gestures may be sent to the family via the Sympathy Store.
