The Illinois Conservation Foundation (ICF) has announced the winners of the inaugural Illinois Outdoor Excellence Awards. These awards aim to recognize individuals and organizations for their significant contributions to the state's natural resources, outdoor heritage, and conservation efforts.

The winners will be honored at the annual ICF Gala on March 13, alongside inductees into the Illinois Outdoor Hall of Fame. Details about the event and ticket information will be released soon.

Among the awardees is "Fresh Air Friendship," led by Emma Magrady and Stephanie Swieca, who were named Outdoor Influencer of the Year. Their initiative to visit all 135 state parks under the Illinois Department of Natural Resources has inspired many to engage with nature through various platforms, including blogs and social media.

Stacey Greene, owner of Chicago's oldest bait shop Park Bait, received recognition as Outdoor Business/Business Owner of the Year. Greene is noted for her support of local fishing programs like IDNR's Chicago Urban Fishing Program and her role in promoting lakefront fishing through her leadership in the Chicago Fishing Advisory Committee.

The Central Illinois Kayaking and Floating group, co-led by Kevin Kramer, was named co-winner for Outdoor Volunteer Organization of the Year. Their environmental efforts have focused on river cleanups, notably on the Mackinaw River.

Sharing this category is Annie Oakley Shooters of Northern Illinois, a women-led organization that promotes clay target shooting for women through education and training. They have worked to foster inclusivity in shooting sports across Illinois.

Kerry Luft was awarded Outdoor Writer/Author of the Year for his work as executive vice president at Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation. His contributions include publications that influence conservation policy and mentorship programs that inspire future conservationists.

Jenny Vaughn, acting ICF executive director, stated: "These award winners represent the very best of Illinois' outdoor community. Their dedication to conservation, education, and advocacy is an inspiration to us all."

The ICF is a nonprofit organization committed to conserving Illinois' natural resources through education and partnerships aimed at engaging residents in protecting the state's outdoor heritage.
