The Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) has released its 2024 Labor Day Report, highlighting the agency's efforts to protect workers' rights and improve working conditions across the state. This announcement comes as IDOL recognizes the vital contributions of workers in Illinois.

"Each year on Labor Day, the Illinois Department of Labor recognizes the critical importance of all workers to our communities and recommits itself to safeguarding workers' core rights, including the rights to be paid promised wages, provided basic meal and rest breaks and days off, and to come home safely at the end of the day," stated Jane Flanagan, Director of IDOL.

The report provides an overview of IDOL's achievements over the past year. It details cases where wages were recovered for workers and instances where advocacy was necessary for those who lost their jobs. The document also underscores IDOL's outreach efforts aimed at educating communities about labor laws.

In response to an influx of immigrants vulnerable to exploitation, IDOL has collaborated with community organizations in Chicago. These partnerships have resulted in over 30 presentations reaching more than 1,000 individuals, informing them about their rights under state labor laws.
