Starting January 1, 2025, Illinois employers will be mandated to provide pay stubs to employees with each pay period. The new requirement aims to enhance transparency for workers regarding their earnings.
The pay stubs must detail hours worked, pay rates, overtime compensation, and wage deductions. "This law gives employees greater transparency about their earnings, allowing workers to verify their hours, income, and deductions," stated Jane Flanagan, Director of the Illinois Department of Labor.
Under Public Act 103-0953, employers are also required to retain a copy of an employee's pay stub for three years from the payment date. This obligation applies regardless of whether the individual remains employed at the company.
Employees or former employees have the right to request copies of their pay stubs up to twice within a 12-month period.
