The new year will bring changes to Illinois workplaces with the implementation of new protections starting January 1, 2025.
Illinois workers will see an increase in minimum wage. The standard minimum wage will rise by $1 per hour from $14 to $15. Tipped workers will receive a minimum of $9 per hour, while youth workers under 18 who work fewer than 650 hours annually will earn $13 per hour.
Employers with at least 15 employees are now required to include pay scale and benefit information in job postings made on or after January 1, 2025. Additionally, employers must provide detailed pay stubs each pay period, outlining hours worked, pay rates, overtime pay, and deductions. Employers are also obligated to retain copies of these pay stubs for three years from the date of payment. Employees or former employees can request copies of their pay stubs.
"These laws taking effect in January put more money in the pockets of Illinois workers, increase pay transparency, and better inform workers about their hours worked, deductions, and wages," stated Illinois Department of Labor Director Jane Flanagan.
Moreover, the Illinois Department of Labor has updated several mandatory workplace posters such as Your Rights Under Illinois Employment Laws and Equal Pay Act Pay Transparency Notice among others.
