PEOTONE - Richard "Dick" L. Benson, aged 84, of Peotone, Illinois, transitioned from his earthly life into eternity on Thursday, December 12, 2024, joining his late wife Barbara Jean Benson. As an esteemed educator, civil servant, and esteemed member of the Peotone community, Richard left an enduring impact on all who knew him.

Richard's illustrious career spanned 63 years in education and civil service, during which he touched the lives of countless individuals as a teacher and administrator. Notably inducted into the Illinois State University Hall of Fame, his commitment to enhancing computer literacy programs for teachers reflected his dedication to technology-based education.

His legacy lives on through his generous persona, active community involvement, and unwavering dedication to his students and colleagues. An avid collector, philanthropist, and sports fan, Richard's multifaceted interests and contributions enriched the lives of all who knew him.

Shared memories and condolences will be honored during the visitation and funeral service at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Friday, December 20, 2024, with Reverend Jonathan Krogh presiding. Private burial will take place at Sheffield Cemetery in Sheffield, IL.
