The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is currently seeking instructors for its 2025 summer fishing clinics as part of the Urban Fishing Program. These clinics, held at various locations across Illinois, are designed to educate communities about fishing skills and ecology.

These instructor positions are temporary, lasting no more than six months. They are ideal for teachers, retirees, students, and others interested in promoting outdoor activities and conservation. Mike McClelland, chief of fisheries for IDNR, emphasized the value of these clinics: "Fishing is a great way for families to spend time together outdoors, and our clinics give thousands of young people an opportunity to experience the fun of fishing every summer." He added that teaching children and adults about fishing can be a rewarding way to spend the summer.

Positions are available in several counties including Boone, Champaign, Jackson, Jefferson, Macon, Madison, McLean, Peoria, Rock Island, Sangamon, St. Clair as well as Cook County and northeastern Illinois.

Prospective applicants should act quickly as the deadline is approaching. More information on job qualifications and application procedures can be found at https://bit.ly/IDNRjobs under "conservation education representative."

The Illinois Urban Fishing Program has been operational since 1985 with goals to teach fishing skills to all ages while enhancing local fishing opportunities and fostering appreciation for natural resources.
