Youth and adults interested in wingshooting can now register for an introductory clinic at Moraine View State Park, scheduled for Saturday, April 26. The park is located at 27374 Moraine View Rd. in Le Roy. This event is open to individuals aged 10 and older who are beginners or novices looking to learn or improve their skills in shooting a shotgun at moving clay targets.
The clinic aims to teach participants how to safely handle and shoot a shotgun with reasonable reliability. The day begins with a shotgun safety presentation at 10:00 a.m., followed by a hands-on orientation session led by certified instructors from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) or the National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA). Participants will have lunch provided before spending the afternoon practicing shooting clay targets until approximately 4:00 p.m.
"The clinic starts with a shotgun safety presentation," organizers explained, emphasizing the focus on safe handling and enjoyment of the sport. "Not only do the participants learn to safely handle and shoot a shotgun, but they also learn that being skilled at shooting clay targets is a lot of fun."
The event is sponsored by Pheasants Forever - McLean County Chapter, McLean County Sportsmen, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and the Illinois Conservation Foundation. These sponsors contribute volunteers and funding for necessary materials such as clay targets, shotshells, and lunch for participants.
