FOIA Request to McHenry County Recorder Regarding Property Sales Records/Transactions on May 2, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Prairie State Wire have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the McHenry County Recorder. The request seeks access to records detailing all properties and their most recent sales, along with associated metadata. Specifically, we are requesting information including the Recorded Instrument ID, Transaction Date, Transaction Amount, Transaction Type, Buyer Name, and Seller Name.
Our role as a media organization involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
This request is also supported by The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting news media companies and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies. By leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws, this coalition aims to enhance transparency and inform the American electorate about government actions.
We look forward to receiving the requested information promptly and will continue our efforts to keep the public informed about important governmental affairs.
