Korean War Veteran Louis Tylka, 93, Passes Peacefully at Home

Louis Tylka, a Korean War veteran and longtime Chicago area resident, passed away at the age of 93 in Henderson, Nevada, surrounded by his children. He was born in Chicago Heights and was the fifth of ten children born to Victoria and Joseph Tylka, Sr. Tylka served in the Navy as a Naval Airman specializing in Aviation Electronics during the Korean War. After leaving the Navy, he worked for IBM, where he won awards and retired in 1987. Tylka was known for his close-knit family, love for fishing, golf, and travel, as well as his passion for gardening and photography. He is survived by his six children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on May 8th at Lawn Funeral Home in Orland Park, IL, with a Funeral Mass on May 9th at Saint Julie Billiart Roman Catholic Church in Tinley Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations to the seminarian program at University of Saint Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, IL are welcome.
