The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has issued a recommendation for residents using private wells near the Lake Bluff Estates Mobile Home Park to test their water for contaminants. This advisory follows routine testing that indicated the presence of 1,4-Dioxane in the mobile home park's water supply, which could also affect nearby private wells.

Residents with wells located within the area bounded by the Elgin Joliet and Eastern Railway to the north and west, Illinois Route 131 to the east, and Illinois Route 176 to the south are encouraged to conduct tests through a private laboratory. Alternatives include installing carbon filters or connecting to the Village of Lake Bluff community water supply.

The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has set a groundwater quality standard for 1,4-Dioxane at 0.78 parts per billion (ppb). Prolonged exposure above this level may increase liver cancer risk. The detected level in the mobile home park's water was measured at 0.95 ppb.

For further assistance, including a list of certified laboratories and interpretation of results, individuals can contact IDPH at (217) 782-5830 or via email at dph.tox@Illinois.gov. For information specific to the Lake Bluff Estates Mobile Home Park community water supply, Jeff Guy from IEPA is available at (217) 785-8724 or Jeff.Guy@Illinois.gov.

This notification complies with Illinois’ Right to Know law.
