Effective July 1, 2025, the Telecommunications Excise Tax rate in the state will increase from 7 percent to 8.65 percent. This adjustment is intended to support the state's 9-8-8 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline as per amendments in legislation P.A. 104-0006, specifically referenced in sections 35 ILCS 630/3(c) and 4(c).

For service providers seeking to verify telecommunications tax rates applicable to each municipality and county, they can utilize the MyTax Illinois Tax Rate Finder available at mytax.illinois.gov. This tool allows users to select rates for July 2025.

Providers who file Form RT-2, Telecommunications Tax Return electronically via MyTax Illinois will find that the relevant rates are automatically populated on Form RT-2-M, Telecommunications Tax Schedule based on registered locations. The platform also offers a feature through the Maintain Locations link for adding or removing locations within their Telecommunications Excise Tax account.
