Gavin “Guy” Muir Scobbie Remembered for Dedication, Love, and Fixing Anything

Gavin “Guy” Muir Scobbie, known for his unwavering dedication and loving nature, passed away on May 17th, 2025, in Homewood, IL. He was born on June 30th, 1941, in Chicago, IL, to the late Andrew and Martha Scobbie. In his passing, he leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Phyllis Scobbie, his children Glenn, Karen, Brooke, Adam, grandchildren Andersen, Palmer Bramson, alongside a pack of grand-pups, sister-in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

Guy and Phyllis, high school sweethearts, started their journey in 1963 and moved to Homewood in 1966. He dedicated 41 years of his career at R.R. Donnelley, culminating as Vice-President of Graphics Management, with Phyllis alongside him at The Form House until his retirement. An avid car enthusiast, he could be found restoring his beloved MG Midget convertible, showcasing at car shows or fixing things as "Mr. Fix-It."

Described as an amazing husband, selfless father, and devoted papa, Guy's care and love extended far. He supported his children's education, marriages, and home repairs, always a reliable babysitter and handyman. His legacy embodies family bonds, friendship, and love. Phyllis and Guy were soulmates who relished in each other's company, especially on trips and cozy evenings watching their favorite shows.

A celebration of life luncheon will be held on Saturday, August 9th, at Scrementi’s Restaurant in Steger, IL, from 12-3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Cancer Support Center in Homewood, IL, are welcomed, in honor of Phyllis’s 25 years of volunteer service and the family's connection to the organization.

Gavin “Guy” Muir Scobbie will be deeply missed but forever cherished for his love, kindness, and ability to fix anything.
