Jose L. Quintana Remembered for Sense of Humor and Devotion to Family

Jose L. Quintana | Smits Deyoung-Vroegh Chapel - South Holland

Jose L. Quintana, 78, of Alsip, IL, passed away on July 9, 2025, in Oak Lawn, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Juncos, Puerto Rico, on June 17, 1947, to Jose Sr. and Margarita Quintana, he moved to Chicago at a young age and graduated from Tuley High School.

Jose served in the United States Army and had a fulfilling career with Illinois Bell/AT&T before retirement. He was known for his quick wit, unwavering devotion to Coca-Cola and Snickers bars, and love for old Westerns and the Chicago White Sox.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maria J. Quintana (née Hernandez), and his children Lisa (Walter) Dexter, Nicole Quintana, Dana Quintana, and Jaclyn (Eric) Baum. Jose was a cherished grandfather to Skylaar, Cristian, and Amelia. He also maintained a close relationship with his former wife and friend, Janet Quintana (née Uremovich). He was a dear brother to Norma, Fred, and Ivette, and was preceded in death by his brothers Orlando and Elisier “Early.”

Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Smits Funeral Home in South Holland, IL, with a funeral service to follow. Interment with military honors will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL, on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

Jose's memory will be carried forward with love and laughter by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. His sense of humor and dedication to family will be deeply missed.
