Homer Glen, Illinois - Mitchell "Mitch" Swieca, aged 73, departed peacefully on July 19, 2025, after a valiant battle with illness, in Homer Glen, Illinois. Born in Chicago to Mitchell M. Swieca and Loretta J. Swieca (nee Zanck), Mitch embodied quiet strength and a generous heart throughout his life. A resident of both Homer Glen and Downers Grove, IL for much of his life, Mitch was known for his diverse interests in engines, mechanical design, physics, photography, and engineering.

Beyond his technical expertise, Mitch held a deep appreciation for life's simple pleasures, finding joy in fishing by tranquil lakes and the curiosity sparked by a child's inquiry. He treasured exploration, whether venturing abroad or embarking on a family car ride filled with storytelling and heartfelt conversations, as he believed in the significance of sharing love through presence, openness, and acceptance.

His unwavering devotion was evident in his commitment to his family and close friends, leaving an indelible mark on his beloved wife, Mary Rose Swieca (nee Schoenecker), and their three children - Shannon, Matthew, and Allison. A master of constructing spaces and fostering ideas, Mitch nurtured a home environment characterized by wonder, dialogue, and personal development. His unwavering support and guidance across a spectrum of interests—from sports to the arts and academics—instilled in his family values of honesty, exploration, integrity, and love, fostering a legacy carried forward through their pursuits and personalities. In his presence, individuals felt seen, understood, and profoundly cherished due to his warmth, affection, and acceptance.

Mitch is preceded in passing by his father, Mitchell M. Swieca; sister and brother-in-law, Natalie and Tom Merkel, along with their son Scott; and brothers-in-law, Michael and William. He is survived by his mother; sister, Joanne Snep (Alan); brother, Christopher Swieca (Sara). Known as "Mick" to aunts and uncles, and "Uncle Mick" to beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins including: Jen, Amy, Suzanne, Megan, Kelsey, Sadie, Robbie, Melissa, Justin, Michael, Brittany, Stephanie, Billy, Stacey, Amanda, Brian, and David.

A celebration of Mitchell's life will be conducted on August 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM, followed by Mass at 11:00 AM at St. Bernard Church, Homer Glen, IL. The service will conclude at Good Shepherd Cemetery, Orland Park, IL, with a gathering to follow, offering an opportunity to recount memories, share love, and embrace the enduring light he imparted.
