Mel's 64-year marriage to Gerry exemplified Christian values, love, and devotion, providing a strong foundation for their 4 daughters, 8 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. A hardworking, blue-collar man and passionate union electrician, Mel built his legacy through his dedication to his family, his trade, and his community in Chicago's south side.
His warm and talkative nature endeared him to all who crossed his path, with a sense of humor that brought joy and laughter to those around him. Mel and Gerry's home was always open to friends, a sentiment that extended to their weekend retreat at Powers Lake, WI, where family bonds were strengthened, memories created, and joy shared on the water.
A parishioner at St. Daniel the Prophet Church and active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Mel's charitable spirit extended to Love, Inc. in Wisconsin. In retirement, Mel cherished time with Gerry, traveling the world, golfing with loved ones, and cherishing family gatherings from grandkids' games to music recitals.
Mel leaves behind his beloved wife Gerry, daughters Kathy, Pat, Elaine, and Gerrianne, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a legacy of love. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, and sister.
A memorial Mass will be held at Franciscan Village in Lemont, IL on Saturday, August 30, 2025, with visitation at 9:00 a.m. and the Mass at 10:00 a.m. Donations to the Walk to End Alzheimer's or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital are welcomed in Mel's memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to honor Mel's charitable work and support causes close to his heart.
