The Illinois Department of Revenue has announced the 2025 Illinois Tax Delinquency Amnesty Act, which gives taxpayers a chance to pay certain overdue state taxes without facing penalties or interest if they pay in full during a set period.

According to the department, eligible tax liabilities are those from periods ending after June 30, 2018, and before July 1, 2024. The amnesty period runs from October 1 through November 17, 2025. Taxpayers who participate must pay their eligible outstanding taxes in full within this window to have related penalties and interest forgiven.

Those who did not file a required return or reported incorrect information for the eligible periods are encouraged to file original or amended returns and pay any owed tax during the amnesty window.

"See FY 2026-01, 2025 Illinois Tax Delinquency Amnesty Act, for more information. Additionally, more information can be found at the 2025 Illinois Tax Amnesty webpage," states the announcement.

More details about eligibility and participation can be found on the official bulletin and on the Illinois Department of Revenue’s tax amnesty program page.
