Juliana Stratton, the Lieutenant Governor of Illinois, said that illegal immigrants in the state can access a website to learn about resources for evading federal authorities such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and obtaining an immigration lawyer.
"If you, or someone you love, aren't sure what resources exist for immigrants in our state, I want you to go to IllinoisImmigrationInfo.org," said Stratton, Lt. Governor. "On the front page, there's a red button that says, "learn your rights" that takes you to a complete know your rights toolkit."
According to WBEZ, ICE has recently increased its presence in Chicago. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed an expansion of operations in the city, including plans to use Naval Station Great Lakes for logistical support for ICE "strike teams" and deploying Homeland Security officers to conduct targeted enforcement activities. These actions are part of a broader administration effort to address undocumented immigration in sanctuary jurisdictions like Chicago, where local authorities have historically limited cooperation with federal enforcement.
Stratton has publicly criticized these federal actions. During recent remarks, she denounced what she described as a militarized approach to immigration enforcement and said that Illinois would not remain silent while residents, particularly undocumented individuals and immigrant communities, were subjected to enforcement actions perceived as aggressive or intimidating.
According to BizpacReview, Stratton is directing undocumented individuals in Illinois to a specific website offering resources to help them evade immigration enforcement and secure legal representation. She explained strategies for undocumented immigrants on how to avoid federal enforcement.
Juliana Stratton is the 48th lieutenant governor of Illinois, serving alongside Governor J.B. Pritzker since 2019.
