Three people have been charged in federal court in Chicago for allegedly using their vehicles to obstruct the work of federal agents. The incidents took place in different locations around the Chicago area, according to criminal complaints filed in U.S. District Court.
Widman Osberto Lopez Funes, 18, from Bensenville, Illinois, faces charges of felony assault on a federal officer and depredation of U.S. property. Prosecutors allege that on October 1, 2025, Lopez Funes forcibly struck a vehicle being driven by officers from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations while driving in Bensenville.
Miguel Escareno De Loera, 20, of Woodridge, Illinois, is also charged with felony assault of a federal officer. According to authorities, De Loera was driving in Woodridge on October 2, 2025, when he allegedly struck a vehicle operated by ICE officers three separate times.
Joel Gonzalez, 23, from Chicago, is charged with misdemeanor forcibly impeding and interfering with a federal officer. On October 2, 2025, Gonzalez allegedly used his vehicle to interfere with several vehicles being driven by agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Matthew J. Scarpino, Special Agent-in-Charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations in Chicago announced the charges.
“The public is reminded that a complaint contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. The defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt,” stated the announcement.
