The Illinois Department of Agriculture has announced the list of candidates for the upcoming Illinois Wheat Development Board election, scheduled for October 30, 2025. The department stated that several wheat producers have met the necessary qualifications to be placed on the ballot.

“Illinois wheat producers play an important role in both our state’s agricultural strength and the nation’s food supply,” said Jerry Costello II, Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture. “By working together and sharing their perspectives, growers can help ensure continued innovation, market growth, and long-term success for the industry.”

For At-Large positions on the board, candidates include Brandon Warren from Wayne County and John Howell from Randolph County; one slot remains without a candidate. District I also lacks a candidate this cycle. Dean Campbell from Madison County is running in District II; Ross Holscher from Crawford County in District III; Steve Launis from Washington County in District IV; and Jamie Harvel from Clay County in District VI. There are no candidates listed for District V.

Qualified wheat producers who wish to serve as either At-Large or District Board members can participate as write-in candidates during the election. Eligibility requirements include being of legal voting age, residing within the relevant district, and being a qualified wheat producer.

Absentee ballots are available by contacting the Illinois Department of Agriculture at 217-524-1083 or by email at agr.marketnews@illinois.gov. Most counties will hold in-person voting at local county Farm Bureau offices during regular business hours.

Further information about district boundaries and voting procedures is available by calling either the Illinois Department of Agriculture or the Illinois Wheat Association at (309) 557-3619.
