Beginning January 1, 2026, changes to the Illinois Motor Fuel Tax Law will take effect as a result of Public Act 104-0006. The act updates the definition of “Motor Fuel,” removes the requirement for suppliers to hold a license, and repeals the definition of “supplier.” In addition, it amends related sections throughout the law and revises how “distributor” and “receiver” are defined.

Those affected include motor fuel tax suppliers, distributors, and receiver accounts. For further details on these legislative adjustments, individuals are directed to consult bulletin FY 2026-02, Changes to the Motor Fuel Tax.
