PrEP4Illinois (PrEP4IL) is offering free HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medication to Illinois residents who are HIV-negative and at significant risk of contracting HIV. The program covers the full cost of PrEP for eligible individuals aged 12 and older, with no income requirements.

According to the program, "When someone is exposed to HIV through sex or injection drug use, PrEP can work to keep the virus from establishing a permanent infection."

Individuals at high risk for HIV can apply for assistance through PrEP4IL by visiting Prep4illinois.com and following the application instructions. The program notes that Illinois Medicaid recipients do not need to apply separately to receive PrEP medications.

For more information about PrEP4IL, individuals can contact the Illinois Department of Public Health by email or phone at 833-PrEP4IL (833-733-7445). Additional questions may also be directed to the ISMS Health Policy Research and Advocacy Division.
