Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) executive director Richard A. Pearson, in a bulletin recently sent to members, warned state residents that they may soon face what he called the same perils as those faced by gun owners across much of the country.
“The Democrats are now in control of the United States House of Representatives and Nancy Pelosi has stated that gun control is going to be one of their goals,” Pearson said. “The problem gun owners face is not in Congress alone; the same problem is in many state legislatures, including Illinois.”
Pearson asked ISRA members and other gun owners to be on hand for Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day (IGOLD).
“Shortly after the Second Veto Session adjourns, we should see the 2019 Spring Session Calendar,” he added. “We will then be able to set the date for IGOLD. IGOLD will be very important this year. Please plan to attend.”
Wishing all a happy Thanksgiving, Pearson expressed gratitude for the Constitution.
“It is often frustrating to be on the front lines defending our Constitution," Pearson said. "The 2nd Amendment is part of our Constitution and yet every day, there are new threats to our liberty. Perhaps, defending the Constitution should not be necessary but being in a country with a Constitution worth defending is something for which we should all give thanks.”
