Illinois Department of Labor issued the following announcement on Nov. 6.
The Illinois Department of Labor's On-Site Safety and Health Consultation Program entered into a partnership agreement Wednesday to assist in providing a safe and healthy working environment at the worksite of the Rush University Medical Center's new $284 million ambulatory building project.
The partnership also involves The U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration Chicago North Area Office, Rush University Medical Center, Power Ujamaa Construction and the Chicago Building Trades Council and local unions.
The new outpatient center is an initial component of Rush University Medical Center's 10-year master plan and is designed as a comprehensive cancer center and neurological care center. The 10-story building will have more than half a million square feet of space and will be paired with a six-level parking garage. The new building will be connected via a bridge to the existing hospital over Ashland Avenue. Approximately 350 workers are expected to be on site at the peak of the project, which has an anticipated completion date of January 2022.
The partnership agreement's goal is to prevent any work-related fatalities during the project, reduce serious workplace hazards and contribute toward an effective safety and health program. IDOL's On-Site Safety and Health Consultation program will participate in on-site reviews at least every quarter. The department's safety consultants will also assist in training and industrial hygiene and safety consultation.
