Sen. Duckworth criticizes President Trump's handling of ventilator supply

Illinois’ Democratic Senator Tammy Duckworth last month drew attention when she voiced her opinion on President Trump and the need for ventilators during the COVID-19 crisis.

That includes the attention of self-described political consultant Dan Curry (@dancurry), who tweeted on April 18:

“IL Senator Tammy Duckworth outlandishly stated that Trump could have saved lives by sending more ventilators. Is any IL media holding her accountable for this false accusation?”

The April 17 tweet from Duckworth said, “As he watches Americans die by the thousands, Trump remains incapable of showing empathy or leadership. He 'could' have saved lives by sending more ventilators, but he didn’t. That’s true, regardless of who Donald 'I don’t take responsibility at all' Trump tries to blame.”

Her tweet was in response to the President’s April 17 tweet about New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s request for 40,000 ventilators.

Outlets such as The Daily Wire, Legalinsurrection.com, Patriot Headline and Conservative Angle have also covered Duckworth’s opinion.

Legal Insurrection noted that Duckworth contradicted Cuomo, whose request was highlighted by Trump.

The Daily Wire reported that Gov. Cuomo has acknowledged that no one has died due to a lack of ventilators.

“Have we saved everyone? No,” Cuomo said. “But have we lost anyone because we didn’t have a bed or we didn’t have a ventilator or we didn’t have health care staff? No. People we lost are the people we couldn’t save.”

Sen. Tammy Duckworth was elected to represent Illinois’ 8th district in 2012 and elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016. She served in the Iraq War as a U.S. Army helicopter pilot and lost both of her legs after severe combat wounds, earning the Purple Heart.
