Wirepoints President Ted Dabrowski is saluting Illinois voters for finally taking more of their destiny into their own hands.

“I was glad to see Illinoisans stand up and stand together against a policy that would have been bad for the state and only made all of our problems even worse than they are,” Dabrowski told the Prairie State Wire. “It was even more interesting to see it was a bipartisan group that came together. I think the key was many groups across the state called it out for what it was, rightfully pointing out that there was no way to trust these politicians by giving them one more way to take advantage of residents.”

Despite the governor long pushing a progressive tax plan he insisted would only mean higher rates for the state’s richest residents and pouring upwards of $50 million of his own money into a campaign to get it over the finish line, voters soundly rejected the proposal that needed the support of at least 60% of all voters responding to it for passage.

Dabrowski said he’s not surprised to now see Pritzker lashing out over his defeat, threatening everything from across-the-board tax hikes to “painful” budget cuts.

“I think it’s a huge mistake and failure on the part of the governor not to recognize that people don’t want more tax hikes or indiscriminate cuts,” Dabrowski added. “He’s delivering false talking points to the people of this state.”

All in all, Dabrowski said the governor is focusing on the wrong things in trying to get the state’s finances back in order.

“He should be talking about pension reform and things like that, but he’s still hoping for bailouts and looking to borrow more money," Dabrowski added. "At some point, he has to realize Illinois has run out options and reforms are the only way to go.”
