Former House Republican Floor Leader Peter Breen is warning anyone willing to listen about what the proposed "Culturally Responsive" teaching standard could mean for the state.

"Parents, teachers and students will all be poorly served if this standard is adopted," Breen told the Prairie State Wire. "It will force teachers to become liberal activist[s] and force students way from legitimate instruction to attend Democratic protests and similar progressive activity. Finally, these standards will put teachers in the position of radicalizing their students without any input from parents."

While the plan has the support of the State Board of Education, Republican critics further charge it will spur such changes as requiring teachers to "create a risk-taking space that promotes student activism and advocacy."

Breen alleged it's politics designed to give Democrats an edge well into the future.

"These standards are a thinly veiled attempt to turn children into Democratic activist[s] and voters," he said. "It's long been known a person's initial political party often remains their longtime party. That's why it's so important to Democrats for them to be able to grab hold of high school students and bring them into the hard left of the party."

Breen hopes more people object.

"Parents and community members need to go to their legislators and demand that the rule be withdrawn," he said. "Teachers need to reach out and demand the same. If this rule is passed, school by school, we all need to push back hard to protect the rights of teachers against this political propaganda."
